About Sri Purandaradasa
Sri Purandaradasa (1484–1564) was originally Srinivasa Nayaka, a wealthy merchant. He was initiated by Sri Vyasatirtha into the Haridasa tradition. He is said to have composed over 475,000 keerthane. Because he formulated the foundational lessons of Carnatic music — Swaravali, Janta swara, Geetha, Suladi — he is honoured as the "Father of Carnatic Music" (Karnatak Sangeeta Pitamaha).
