King Indrasena's Liberation of His Father — Padma Puranaराजा इंद्रसेन द्वारा पिता-मुक्ति — पद्म पुराण
Per Padma Purana, King Indrasena of Mahishmati received a visit from Sage Narada. Narada said: 'Your dead father Aindrasena is suffering in naraka — his soul saw me passing by and begged for help.' Indrasena was shocked — his father had been a virtuous king. Narada explained: 'A single Ekadashi he broke in youth — that small lapse keeps him in lower regions.'
Narada prescribed Ashwina Krishna Ekadashi vrat with the merit dedicated to Aindrasena. Indrasena observed it scrupulously. At sunrise on Dwadashi, a celestial vehicle descended; Aindrasena rose to Vishnu's abode. Hence: Indira Ekadashi is the single most-prescribed pitru-mokshana vrat in Hindu calendar.
पद्म पुराण के अनुसार माहिष्मती के राजा इंद्रसेन के पास ऋषि नारद आए। नारद ने कहा — 'आपके दिवंगत पिता ऐंद्रसेन नरक में पीड़ित हैं — उनकी आत्मा ने मुझे जाते देख सहायता की प्रार्थना की।' इंद्रसेन स्तब्ध रह गए — उनके पिता तो धर्म-राजा थे। नारद ने स्पष्ट किया — 'युवावस्था में एक एकादशी टूटी थी — वही छोटी चूक उन्हें निम्न लोकों में रखे हुए है।'
