About this Aarti
Aarti of Maa Ekadashi — recited fortnightly by Vaishnavas observing the Ekadashi vrat for moksha and Vaikuntha.
Sung twice every lunar month on the 11th tithi of both Shukla and Krishna pakshas — particularly on the major Ekadashis: Nirjala (Jyeshtha Shukla), Devshayani (Ashadha Shukla), Devuthani (Kartik Shukla), Vaikuntha (Margashirsha Shukla), Mokshada, and Putrada.
Ekadashi is the most sacred lunar tithi for Vaishnavas — the eleventh day of both the bright and dark fortnights. The Padma Purana, Skanda Purana, and Brahmavaivarta Purana detail 24 named Ekadashis through the year, each with its own vrat-katha. Devotees observe partial fast (one phalahar meal) or nirjala-vrat (waterless), avoid grains (anna) and beans, perform japa-mala, and recite Vishnu Sahasranama. Ekadashi-vrat is considered to purify hundreds of previous births' sins and grant direct entry to Vaikuntha. The most demanding Ekadashi is Nirjala — observed without even a drop of water for 24 hours.
Significance & Importance
Ekadashi vrat is hailed in the Padma Purana as the supreme vrat — capable of granting moksha when no other tapasya succeeds. Even partial observance grants substantial papa-naash.
