What is Gochar?

Gochar means the current movement of the grahas — where they stand in the sky at this moment. Your birth chart is fixed; the transits keep moving. Classical gochara counts those moving grahas from the natal Moon: Saturn in the 3rd, 6th or 11th from the Moon, for instance, is read as favourable. That is why a transit is always "for whom" — the same sky reads differently for two people, because their natal Moons differ.

This tool also counts the house from your Lagna for chart-based reading, but the headline verdict follows the classical tradition and is counted from the Moon.

How Ashtakavarga bindus score a transit

5 or more bindus
A strong transit — this graha’s matters pick up momentum easily.
4 bindus
A supported transit — this is the classical dividing line.
3 bindus
A middling transit — results in proportion to effort.
0–2 bindus
A lean transit — prepare rather than push. A caution, never a prohibition.

The bindus come from each graha’s own Bhinnashtakavarga. See the full tables on the Ashtakavarga calculator.

Reading a Saturn or Rahu transit without fear

A Saturn transit is not a "bad" transit. Saturn is the graha of time and structure — his transits ask for routine, honest accounting, humility and patience with slow answers. Sade Sati is not a sentence either; it removes what was not built to last. Rahu magnifies whatever house he touches — the pull there gets stronger, so what it asks for is discernment, not dread.

No transit is read alone. The running mahadasha and antardasha are the backdrop; the transit only colours it. That is why this board reports a tendency — never an event.

Understand This Simply

The Gochar tracker shows where the nine grahas (planets) stand in the sky right now and how today's sky falls on your own birth chart — because the same sky reads differently for every person.

Everyday analogy: It is like a daily weather report laid over the map of your home town — the same rain that troubles one district waters another's fields, and knowing the forecast helps you carry an umbrella, not cancel the journey.

What to do with this: Glance at it like a forecast: move ahead where the transit is supportive, plan a little extra patience where the score is lean, and save the day's reading as a PDF if you wish. For big decisions, weigh the whole chart with a qualified Jyotishi — never a single transit alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Gochar?

Gochar is the current movement of the grahas — where they stand in the sky right now. Classical gochara reads those moving grahas against your BIRTH chart, counting the house each one occupies from your natal Moon; the same sky therefore reads differently for two people with different Moon signs.

How do Ashtakavarga bindus score a transit?

Each graha earns 0–8 bindus in every rashi in your natal Bhinnashtakavarga. When it later transits a rashi, the classical rule is that it gives results in proportion to the bindus it earned there at birth: 4 or more is supportive, 3 is middling, 2 or fewer is lean. This is the single most useful refinement over reading the Moon-house alone.

Is a Saturn transit bad?

No. Saturn is the graha of time, structure and consequence, not of misfortune. His transits ask for routine, honest accounts, humility and patience with slow answers — and what is built well during them tends to last. Even Sade Sati is a period of pruning and consolidation, not a sentence. Read Saturn as a teacher of method, never as a threat.

What does a retrograde (vakri) transit mean?

Retrograde means the graha appears to move backwards from the earth. Classically the theme it governs comes back for review — an unfinished matter returns, a decision is re-examined. It marks a second reading, not a setback, and the graha still delivers according to its bindus in that rashi.

Why do Rahu and Ketu show no bindus?

The Parashari Ashtakavarga is built for the seven grahas and the lagna only — Rahu and Ketu have no Bhinnashtakavarga of their own, so there are no bindus to earn for them. Their transits are shown, but read from the Moon-house position alone, which is why exactly seven of the nine rows carry a bindu score.

Can a transit predict an event?

No — and this tool deliberately does not try. A transit colours the period the running Vimshottari dasha has already set; it is read alongside the dasha, never instead of it. Vedha (obstruction) pairs are also not modelled here, so a full manual reading would soften some lines. Treat the board as a tendency snapshot and consult a qualified Jyotishi for decisions.
