Adhik Maas (also Mala Maas) is the intercalary month added to the Hindu lunar calendar every 2–3 years to align it with the solar year. Lord Vishnu (Purushottam — the Supreme Being) is its presiding deity. The full moon of this extra month is therefore called Purushottam Purnima, dedicated entirely to Vishnu worship.

Even if no river is nearby, bathing at home with Ganga jal added to the water is accepted. The Purnima tithi's natural sanctity is further amplified in the Adhik month.
