Legend & History
According to legend, Lord Krishna established the city of Dwarka after leaving Mathura. He ruled from Dwarka with his 16,108 wives. After Krishna's departure from the Earth, the city submerged into the sea. Archaeological excavations have found evidence of an ancient city submerged in the Arabian Sea near present-day Dwarka. By tradition, the original temple was established by Krishna's great-grandson Vajranabha; the present structure reflects later reconstructions.
