Ruby (Manik) — Who Should Wear, Benefits & How to Wear
Ruby is the gemstone of the Sun — significator of confidence, leadership, fame and health. Highly effective when worn for the right ascendant and dasha.
Who Should Wear Ruby?
Benefits of Wearing Ruby
How to Wear Ruby (Step by Step)
- 1Choose a natural, untreated ruby — minimum 5–7 ratti.
- 2Set it in a gold ring so the stone touches the skin (a Panchdhatu setting is also acceptable).
- 3Pick a Sunday in the Shukla Paksha (waxing moon), at sunrise.
- 4Purify the ring by dipping it in raw milk, Ganga-jal and honey.
- 5Chant the Surya beej mantra "Om Hraam Hreem Hraum Sah Suryaya Namah" 108 times.
- 6Offer Arghya to the Sun, then wear it on the ring finger of the right hand.
- 7On the first day, donate wheat and jaggery to a Brahmin or a person in need.
Cautions
- For Vrishabha, Tula, Makara and Kumbha ascendants the Sun is often unfavourable — do not wear without consultation.
- If it causes excess heat, anger, insomnia or eye discomfort, remove it.
- Avoid combining with Blue Sapphire, Diamond or (for some ascendants) Emerald without guidance.
- Always show your kundali to a qualified astrologer before wearing any gemstone.
Substitutes: If a genuine ruby is not feasible, substitutes (uparatna) such as Red Garnet (Tamra), Red Spinel, Sunstone or Star Ruby may be worn.
