About this Aarti
Radha Rani Aarti is the most beloved prayer of Vrindavan and Barsana, celebrating the divine love and glory of Shri Radha, the supreme devotee of Lord Krishna.
Daily in Vrindavan and Barsana; Radhastami (Bhadra Shukla Ashtami); Holi, Janmashtami
Significance & Importance
Shri Radha Rani -- daughter of Vrishabhanu of Barsana and the eternal consort of Krishna -- is the embodiment of divine love (prema) in Vaishnava devotion. Her aarti is offered daily in Vrindavan and Barsana; by tradition her name is always chanted before Krishna's.
In Vaishnava theology, Radha is the supreme devotee (parama bhakta) who represents the soul in its purest state of longing for the Divine. She is hladini shakti -- the bliss-bestowing power of the Lord -- through whom Krishna himself experiences the fullness of divine love. In the Braj and Vaishnava tradition, the practice of calling 'Radhe Radhe' before invoking Krishna expresses this truth: the path to the Lord passes through the gate of love she personifies.
The aarti hymn weaves together Radha's portraits as Kunj Viharini (she who roams the sacred groves), Braj Rani (queen of Braj), and Jagat ki Shakti Janani (mother of the world's power). Radhastami, on the eighth lunar day of Bhadrapada's bright fortnight, honours her appearance with great tenderness. In worshipping Radha, the devotee recognises that love -- more than ritual or knowledge -- is the swiftest path to liberation.
