Chhath Maiya Ki Aarti Bhojpuri

Jai Chhath Maiya, jai Dinkar Deva, / Doobat suruj ke aragh dein ho. — Glory to Chhath Maiya, glory to the Sun God (Dinkar); we offer arghya (a water oblation) to the setting sun. (Chhath's evening arghya is offered to the sun as it sets.) Poorab disha mein khade hoke, / Ugat suruj ke pooja karin ho. — Then, standing facing the eastern direction, we worship the rising sun. (The next dawn's arghya is offered to the freshly risen sun.) Baans ke daliya mein phal sajaain, / Thekua prasad aragh mein chadhaain ho. — Arranging fruits in a bamboo basket (daliya/soop), we offer thekua as prasad along with the arghya to the Sun God. (Thekua is the traditional Chhath offering.) Ghaat ghaat par bheed laagal baate, / Chhath Maiya ke gun gaain ho. — At every riverbank ghat a crowd of devotees has gathered, and together they sing the praises and glories of Chhath Maiya. Khade hoke paani mein bhakt log, / Suruj Dev ke dhyaan lagaain ho. — Standing in the water (of the river or pond), the devotees fix their meditation upon the Sun God. (Observers stand waist-deep in water to offer the oblation.) Bihar aur poorabi Uttar Pradesh, / Milke Chhath parv manaain ho. — The people of Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh come together to celebrate this sacred festival of Chhath. Chhath Maiya tu daata baadu, / Santan sukh hamke dein ho. — O Chhath Maiya, you are the bestower of all gifts; grant us the happiness of children (progeny). (Chhath is a vow undertaken for the well-being of one's children.) Jai Chhath Maiya, jai jai Devi, / Tohaar mahima nit gaain ho. — Glory to Chhath Maiya; victory, victory to you, O Devi; we sing your glory every day, forever.
