Legend & History
The legend states that Emperor Akbar, skeptical of the miraculous flames, tried to extinguish them by covering with a metal sheet and diverting water flow. However, the flames melted the metal, and the streams diverted back. Convinced of the divine power, Akbar offered a gold umbrella (chatra) which melted, and only the gold plating on the temple dome remains.
