Once there was a poor but devout woman named Sumangala. Her husband was ill and there was no money at home. One day she learned about the Vaibhav Lakshmi Vrat from her neighbour. Sumangala took the vow to worship Vaibhav Lakshmi every Friday. She would worship with devotion during Pradosh Kaal in the evening — the first ninety minutes after sunset. Within a few weeks, her husband's illness departed, the business prospered and wealth and abundance grew in the home. Sumangala gratefully completed 11 fasts and performed the udyapan. Vaibhav Lakshmi appeared in a dream and said: "Whoever worships me during Friday's Pradosh Kaal will receive wealth, prosperity and family happiness."
