🪔 Ganesha Shodashopachara Puja
Shodashopachara puja means worship performed with sixteen (shodasha) services (upachara). It is the most widely followed home puja method for Lord Ganesha — done on Wednesdays, Ganesh Chaturthi, Sankashti, and at the start of any auspicious task. 📋 The 16 Upacharas — Step by Step
1.Avahan (Invocation)
With folded hands, invoke Lord Ganesha into the idol/image, praying for his presence.
2.Asana (Seat)
Offer a seat by placing flowers and akshata (unbroken rice) for the deity.
3.Padya (Foot-water)
Offer water to symbolically wash the Lord's feet.
4.Arghya (Respectful offering)
Offer water with sandal, rice and a flower as a mark of respect.
5.Achaman (Sipping water)
Offer pure water for achaman (ritual sipping/purification).
6.Snana (Bath)
Bathe the deity with Panchamrit (milk, curd, ghee, honey, sugar), then with clean water.
7.Vastra (Garments)
Offer fresh garments or a mauli/cloth.
8.Yajnopavita (Sacred thread)
Offer the sacred thread (janeu).
9.Gandha (Fragrance)
Apply sandalwood paste and a roli/kumkum tilak.
10.Pushpa & Durva
Offer flowers and 21 blades of durva grass, especially dear to Ganesha.
11.Dhoop (Incense)
Offer incense, circling it before the deity.
12.Deep (Lamp)
Offer a lit ghee lamp.
13.Naivedya (Bhog)
Offer bhog — modak or laddu, Ganesha's favourite.
14.Tambul (Betel)
Offer betel leaf, areca nut, clove and cardamom.
15.Aarti (Nirajan)
Perform the aarti, waving the lit lamp while singing with devotion.
16.Pradakshina-Namaskar
Circumambulate and prostrate, seeking blessings and forgiveness for any errors.
