Vat Savitri Vrat 2026 — May 16
Savitri won back her husband's life from Yamraj — women still invoke this divine power today.
2026 Special: May 16 = Vat Savitri 🌳 + Shanishchari Amavasya 🌑 + Shani Jayanti 🪐
Fasting on this day yields the combined fruit of all three — marital longevity + ancestral peace + Shani's grace.
Savitri-Satyavan Katha
Princess Savitri chose Prince Satyavan in her swayamvar, knowing his life was destined to end within one year. Despite Narada Muni's warning, she married him and lived with him in the forest.
On the appointed day, under a Banyan tree, Satyavan fell unconscious. Yamraj came to claim his soul. Savitri followed Yamraj, using her wit and devotion to request three boons. For her third boon she asked: "May I become the mother of many sons" — forcing Yamraj to return Satyavan's soul.
This event took place under the Banyan (Vat) tree. That is why married women worship the Banyan tree — for their husband's long life and family protection.
