I bow to Vinayaka, who joyfully holds a sweet modaka in hand, who is the ever-present means to liberation, who wears the crescent moon as his crown ornament, who protects the joyous life of the world, who is the singular leader even though he has no leader over him, who destroyed the elephant-demon Gajasura, and who swiftly removes the misfortune and sins of those who bow before him.

He who is fearsome to the enemies of his devotees yet radiant like the newly risen sun to those who bow to him, who is honoured by the immortal gods, who lifts even the greatest calamities of the humble, who is the lord of the celestials, the lord of treasures, the lord of elephants, the lord of the ganas, and Maheshvara himself - I take refuge in that supreme, eternally abiding Lord.

He who brings well-being to all the worlds, who utterly destroyed the elephant-formed demon, whose belly is unlike any other and magnificent, whose face is like that of a supreme elephant, and who is imperishable; who is the giver of compassion, of forgiveness, of joy, of fame, and who steadies the mind - to that radiant Lord, honoured by the salutations of all, I offer my salutations.

He who wipes away the suffering of the poor and helpless, who is glorified in ancient hymns and scriptures, who is the joy-giving firstborn son of Purari (Shiva, the destroyer of Tripura), who crushed the pride of the gods' adversaries, who is awe-inspiring in the dissolution of the manifest world (maya), who is adorned by the devotion of Dhananjaya (Arjuna) and other great ones, and from whose temples the ichor of a mighty elephant flows - I worship that ancient, elephant-faced Lord.

Him whose single tusk shines with an utterly captivating brilliance, who is the son of Antakantaka (Shiva, the vanquisher of Death), whose true form is beyond the reach of thought, who is without beginning or end, who cuts away every obstacle on the seeker's path, and who dwells eternally in the hearts of yogis - upon that Ekadanta, the single-tusked Lord, I meditate constantly.
