
Janmashtami Puja Vidhi
Sri Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated on Bhadrapada Krishna Ashtami. Lord Krishna's birth is celebrated at midnight. The Laddu Gopal (baby Krishna) idol is placed in a cradle and rocked. A nirjala or fruit fast is observed. Mathura-Vrindavan celebrates with special grandeur.

Puja Procedure — Steps
Vrat Sankalp & Fasting
Bathe and take the vrat sankalp. Observe nirjala or fruit fast.
Laddu Gopal Shringar (Adorning the Deity)
Bathe Laddu Gopal with Panchamrit and water. Adorn with new clothes, crown, flute, and peacock feather. Place on Tulsi leaves in the cradle.
Midnight Janmotsav (Birth Celebration)
At midnight, blow the conch and ring bells. Sing "Nand Ghar Anand Bhayo." Rock the cradle.
Shodashopachara Puja (Sixteen Offerings)
Perform 16-step worship. Offer butter-mishri, dhaniya panjiri, panchamrit as naivedya.

Recite the birth of Krishna from Shrimad Bhagavat, Dashama Skanda. Or listen to Krishna Leelas.
Aarti, Parana (Breaking the Fast) & Prasad
Sing "Aarti Kunj Bihari Ki." Break the fast after midnight with Panchamrit. Distribute butter-mishri and panjiri prasad.
