Shiv Nachari (Vidyapati Maithili)
Significance & Importance
Vidyapati's Nacharis are theologically revolutionary — they portray Shiva not as the cosmic ascetic of the Vedas but as an intimate household god who plays with Parvati like a Mithila villager. This 'sahaja' (natural, household) Shiva tradition is unique to Maithili Bhakti and influenced later Bengali Vaishnava literature. The genre is sung in jhumar tala by traditional Bhagwati-Shiv jagran groups across Darbhanga, Madhubani, and the Terai districts of Nepal (Janakpur, Dhanusha, Mahottari).
