Significance & Importance
The story of Sati Devi is foundational to Shakta tradition and the origin legend of all 51 Shaktipeethas across the Indian subcontinent. In Bhojpuri folk culture, this katha-geet is sung by women during Navratri fast vigils and Shaktipeeth yatras. The lament captures the tension between devotion to one's husband and paternal honor — a theme that resonates deeply in Bhojpuri cultural memory. Singing this ballad is believed to invoke Sati's blessings for the protection of marital bonds and family harmony.
