About this Aarti
Aarti recited by mothers on Ahoi Ashtami (Kartik Krishna Ashtami) for children's long life and well-being.
Recited on Ahoi Ashtami (Kartik Krishna Ashtami — 8 days before Diwali) at dusk after the appearance of stars, by mothers observing the day-long nirjala fast for their children.
Ahoi Ashtami is one of the most universally observed mother-vrats in North Indian Hindu households — alongside Karva Chauth (Kartik Krishna Chaturthi). Mothers fast from sunrise to the appearance of stars, then break the fast after viewing the Ahoi Mata diagram (painted on the wall or a paper outline showing the goddess with seven sons/daughters) and offering halwa-puri prasad. The ritual is uniquely matrilineal — focused entirely on child welfare. Karva (water-pot) is also used and gifted to elders.
Significance & Importance
Performing Ahoi Mata aarti and vrat is said to grant children a long, disease-free life, success in studies and career, and protection from all harm.
