so. phulaha pharai na beta jadapi sudha barashahim jalada murukha hridaya~ na ceta jaum gura milahim biramci sama 16(kha)
Meaning (English)
Goswami Tulsidas offers an instructive soratha: the beto (cane-plant) never blossoms or bears fruit, even if the clouds pour down nectar itself. In the same way, the heart of a fool never awakens — even if he finds a teacher equal to Brahma himself.
Meaning (Hindi) · भावार्थ
गोस्वामी तुलसीदास एक उपदेशात्मक सोरठा कहते हैं — बेंत (बाँस की जाति का काँटेदार पौधा) कभी फूलता-फलता नहीं, चाहे मेघ अमृत ही क्यों न बरसाएँ। उसी प्रकार मूर्ख का हृदय कभी नहीं चेतता — भले ही उसे ब्रह्मा के समान गुरु ही क्यों न मिल जाएँ।
