Ayodhya Kand Verse 192
राम प्रताप नाथ बल तोरे। करहिं कटकु बिनु भट बिनु घोरे ॥
जीवत पाउ न पाछें धरहीं। रुंड मुंडमय मेदिनि करहीं ॥
दीख निषादनाथ भल टोलू। कहेउ बजाउ जुझाऊ ढोलू ॥
एतना कहत छींक भइ बाँए। कहेउ सगुनिअन्ह खेत सुहाए ॥
बूढ़ु एकु कह सगुन बिचारी। भरतहि मिलिअ न होइहि रारी ॥
रामहि भरतु मनावन जाहीं। सगुन कहइ अस बिग्रहु नाहीं ॥
सुनि गुह कहइ नीक कह बूढ़ा। सहसा करि पछिताहिं बिमूढ़ा ॥
भरत सुभाउ सीलु बिनु बूझें। बड़ि हित हानि जानि बिनु जूझें ॥
दो. गहहु घाट भट समिटि सब लेउँ मरम मिलि जाइ।

būḍha़u eku kaha saguna bicārī| bharatahi milia na hoihi rārī ||
rāmahi bharatu manāvana jāhīṃ| saguna kahai asa bigrahu nāhīṃ ||
suni guha kahai nīka kaha būḍha़ā| sahasā kari pachitāhiṃ bimūḍha़ā ||
bharata subhāu sīlu binu būjheṃ| baḍa़i hita hāni jāni binu jūjheṃ ||

bujhi mitra ari madhya gati tasa taba karihau~ ai 192 The warriors say — Lord, by the might of Ram's glory and your strength, your army will defeat great fighters even without horses and bowmen; we will not turn back alive and will make the battlefield a carpet of heads and trunks. Seeing his force ready and well-equipped, the Nishada chief ordered the battle-drum to be struck. At that moment there was a sneeze to the left — the omen-readers said the field is auspicious, meaning battle is near. But an elder, reflecting on the omens, said — go and meet Bharat first; there will be no battle. Bharat is going to reconcile with Ram — the omen says so; there will be no conflict. Guha heard this and said — the old man speaks well; those who act rashly repent later. Without understanding Bharat's true character and disposition, we could cause great harm by fighting. Therefore let everyone hold the ghat while I go alone to learn the truth; once I understand whether he comes as friend, foe, or something in between, I will decide accordingly.
वे बोले — हे स्वामी, राम के प्रताप और तुम्हारे बल से ही तुम्हारी सेना बिना घोड़े और बिना योद्धाओं के भी बड़े-बड़े योद्धाओं को परास्त कर देगी; हम जीते जी पैर पीछे नहीं हटाएँगे और रणभूमि को सिरों और धड़ों से भर देंगे। निषादनाथ ने सेना को अच्छी और तैयार देखकर युद्ध का नगाड़ा बजाने का आदेश दिया। इतने में बाईं ओर छींक हो गई — शकुन-ज्ञाताओं ने कहा 'खेत सुहावने हैं' (अर्थात् लड़ाई होगी)। एक वृद्ध ने शकुन विचार कर कहा — भरत से मिल लो, लड़ाई नहीं होगी। राम को मनाने भरत जा रहे हैं — यह शकुन ऐसा ही कह रहा है, कोई विग्रह नहीं होगा। गुह ने सुना और कहा — बूढ़ा ठीक कहता है; बिना सोचे करने वाले पछताते हैं। भरत का स्वभाव और शील बिना जाने लड़ाई में बड़ा नुकसान हो सकता है। इसलिए सब घाट पर रहें और मैं अकेले जाकर मर्म जानूँगा; मित्र, शत्रु और मध्यम भाव जानकर वैसा करूँगा।
