Dwarkadhish Temple

Significance

Dwarka is one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites and one of the Sapta Puri (seven most sacred cities). It is believed to be the ancient kingdom of Lord Krishna. The temple is located on the banks of the Gomti River and is also one of the 108 Divya Desams. The temple's 5-story main shrine is supported by 72 pillars. Dwarka is considered the first capital of Gujarat and is mentioned in ancient texts like Mahabharata and Bhagavata Purana.

Legend & History

According to legend, Lord Krishna established the city of Dwarka after leaving Mathura. He ruled from Dwarka with his 16,108 wives. After Krishna's departure from the Earth, the city submerged into the sea. Archaeological excavations have found evidence of an ancient city submerged in the Arabian Sea near present-day Dwarka. The temple was established by Krishna's great-grandson, Vajranabha, over 2,500 years ago.

पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार, भगवान कृष्ण ने मथुरा छोड़ने के बाद द्वारका शहर की स्थापना की। उन्होंने अपनी 16,108 पत्नियों के साथ द्वारका से शासन किया। कृष्ण के पृथ्वी से प्रस्थान के बाद, शहर समुद्र में डूब गया। पुरातात्विक उत्खनन से वर्तमान द्वारका के पास अरब सागर में डूबे एक प्राचीन शहर के प्रमाण मिले हैं।
