Significance

The Vishnupad Temple in Gaya is built around a 40-cm footprint of Lord Vishnu imprinted in rock. Gaya is one of the most important places for Pind Daan rituals for ancestors, making this temple central to ancestral rites.

गया का विष्णुपद मंदिर भगवान विष्णु के 40 सेमी के चरण चिन्ह के चारों ओर निर्मित है। गया पिंडदान के लिए सबसे महत्वपूर्ण स्थानों में से एक है, जिससे यह मंदिर पितृ अनुष्ठानों का प्रमुख केंद्र है।

Legend & History

Legend says that Lord Vishnu subdued the demon Gayasur here by placing his foot on his chest, imprinting the footprint. The temple was reconstructed by the Maratha queen Ahilyabai Holkar in the 18th century.

मान्यता है कि भगवान विष्णु ने यहां गयासुर का वध कर उसके वक्ष पर पैर रखा, जिससे चरण चिन्ह अंकित हो गया। मंदिर का पुनर्निर्माण 18वीं शताब्दी में अहिल्याबाई होलकर ने कराया था।
