Significance

Guruvayur Temple, also known as Bhuloka Vaikunta (Holy Abode of Vishnu on Earth), is one of the most important Krishna temples in India. The presiding deity is Lord Guruvayurappan, a four-armed form of child Krishna. The temple is famous for conducting numerous marriages and is considered highly auspicious for weddings. The temple follows strict orthodox traditions and only Hindus are allowed entry. The temple elephant, Guruvayur Kesavan, was famous throughout India. The temple receives millions of devotees annually and is known for its Garudaseva festival.

गुरुवायुर मंदिर, जिसे भूलोक वैकुंठ (पृथ्वी पर विष्णु का पवित्र निवास) के रूप में भी जाना जाता है, भारत के सबसे महत्वपूर्ण कृष्ण मंदिरों में से एक है। मुख्य देवता भगवान गुरुवायुरप्पन हैं, जो बाल कृष्ण का चार भुजाओं वाला रूप हैं। मंदिर अनेक विवाहों के आयोजन के लिए प्रसिद्ध है और विवाह के लिए अत्यधिक शुभ माना जाता है।

Legend & History

According to legend, the deity was originally worshipped by Lord Brahma and later by Lord Krishna himself in Dwarka. After Krishna's departure, knowing that Dwarka would be submerged, Brihaspati (Guru) and Vayu carried the idol to Kerala and installed it at Guruvayur. The temple was mentioned in ancient Tamil and Sanskrit texts. The deity is made of a rare stone called Patala Anjana and holds conch (Panchajanya), discus (Sudarshana Chakra), mace (Kaumodaki), and lotus. The temple has been rebuilt several times after fires and is known for its powerful deity that grants wishes.

पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार, देवता की पूजा मूल रूप से भगवान ब्रह्मा द्वारा और बाद में भगवान कृष्ण ने स्वयं द्वारका में की थी। कृष्ण के प्रस्थान के बाद, यह जानते हुए कि द्वारका डूब जाएगी, बृहस्पति (गुरु) और वायु मूर्ति को केरल ले गए और गुरुवायुर में स्थापित किया। मंदिर का उल्लेख प्राचीन तमिल और संस्कृत ग्रंथों में किया गया है। देवता पाताल अंजन नामक एक दुर्लभ पत्थर से बना है।
