Significance
Padmanabhaswamy Temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams (sacred abodes of Vishnu) and is known for being one of the richest temples in the world. The presiding deity, Padmanabhaswamy, is in the Ananta Shayana posture (reclining on the serpent Ananta/Shesha). The temple is built in Kerala and Dravidian architectural styles. The idol is 18 feet long and made of a unique combination of over 10,000 Shaligrama stones. The temple vaults contain treasures worth billions of dollars, discovered in 2011, making it one of the wealthiest religious institutions.

Legend & History
According to legend, the temple was consecrated on the first day of Kali Yuga. The deity is believed to be in a yogic sleep (yoga nidra) on the serpent Ananta, floating on the cosmic ocean. The temple was mentioned in various Puranas and ancient Tamil literature. It was the royal temple of the rulers of Travancore. In 1750, Maharaja Marthanda Varma dedicated his kingdom to Lord Padmanabha and ruled as the deity's representative. The temple follows strict dress codes and only Hindus are allowed entry. The deity can be viewed through three doors showing the head, navel with Brahma on lotus, and feet.
पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार, मंदिर की स्थापना कलियुग के पहले दिन हुई थी। माना जाता है कि देवता सर्प अनंत पर ब्रह्मांडीय सागर पर तैरते हुए योग निद्रा में हैं। मंदिर का उल्लेख विभिन्न पुराणों और प्राचीन तमिल साहित्य में किया गया है। यह त्रावणकोर के शासकों का शाही मंदिर था। 1750 में, महाराजा मार्तंड वर्मा ने अपने राज्य को भगवान पद्मनाभ को समर्पित किया और देवता के प्रतिनिधि के रूप में शासन किया।
