Tara Tarini Temple

Significance

Tara Tarini is one of the oldest pilgrimage centers in Odisha and one of the four major ancient Shakti Peeths in India. The temple houses two deities, Tara and Tarini (twin goddesses), representing the two breasts of Sati that fell here. Located on a hilltop, pilgrims must climb 999 steps to reach the temple. The temple is especially significant during Chaitra Parva festival.

तारा तारिणी ओडिशा के सबसे पुराने तीर्थ केंद्रों में से एक है और भारत के चार प्रमुख प्राचीन शक्तिपीठों में से एक है। मंदिर में दो देवताओं, तारा और तारिणी (जुड़वां देवियां) हैं, जो सती के दो स्तनों का प्रतिनिधित्व करती हैं जो यहां गिरे थे। एक पहाड़ी की चोटी पर स्थित, तीर्थयात्रियों को मंदिर तक पहुंचने के लिए 999 सीढ़ियां चढ़नी होती हैं। चैत्र पर्व त्योहार के दौरान मंदिर विशेष रूप से महत्वपूर्ण है।

Legend & History

The temple is believed to be more than 2000 years old and is mentioned in ancient texts like the Mahabharata. Legend says that the Pandavas visited this temple during their exile. The twin goddesses are considered the manifestation of Shakti's nurturing aspect. The temple complex includes shrines for other deities and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside and the Rushikulya River.

माना जाता है कि यह मंदिर 2000 साल से अधिक पुराना है और महाभारत जैसे प्राचीन ग्रंथों में इसका उल्लेख है। कथा कहती है कि पांडवों ने अपने वनवास के दौरान इस मंदिर का दर्शन किया था। जुड़वां देवियों को शक्ति के पोषण पहलू की अभिव्यक्ति माना जाता है। मंदिर परिसर में अन्य देवताओं के मंदिर शामिल हैं और आसपास के ग्रामीण इलाकों और रुशिकुल्या नदी का मनोरम दृश्य प्रस्तुत करता है।
