Vishwanath (Kashi Vishwanath)

Significance

Located in the holy city of Varanasi on the banks of river Ganga. One of the most sacred and ancient temples in India. The city is believed to be where time and space converge.

गंगा नदी के तट पर पवित्र शहर वाराणसी में स्थित। भारत के सबसे पवित्र और प्राचीन मंदिरों में से एक। माना जाता है कि यह शहर वह स्थान है जहां समय और स्थान मिलते हैं।

Legend & History

Kashi is considered the favorite city of Lord Shiva. It is believed that those who die in Kashi attain moksha (liberation) as Shiva himself whispers the Taraka mantra in their ears. The temple has been destroyed and rebuilt several times.

काशी को भगवान शिव का प्रिय शहर माना जाता है। ऐसा माना जाता है कि जो लोग काशी में मरते हैं उन्हें मोक्ष प्राप्त होता है क्योंकि शिव स्वयं उनके कानों में तारक मंत्र फुसफुसाते हैं। मंदिर को कई बार नष्ट और पुनर्निर्मित किया गया है।
