Rameshwaram (Ramanathaswamy)

Significance

Located on Rameswaram island, one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites. The temple has the longest corridor among Hindu temples. Associated with Lord Rama's worship of Shiva.

रामेश्वरम द्वीप पर स्थित, चार धाम तीर्थ स्थलों में से एक। मंदिर में हिंदू मंदिरों में सबसे लंबा गलियारा है। भगवान राम द्वारा शिव की पूजा से जुड़ा हुआ।

Legend & History

Before attacking Lanka, Lord Rama wanted to worship Shiva to absolve the sin of killing Ravana (a Brahmin). Hanuman went to bring a linga from Kailash but got delayed. So Sita made a linga from sand. Both lingas are worshipped - the Ramalingam and the one Hanuman brought.

लंका पर आक्रमण करने से पहले, भगवान राम रावण (एक ब्राह्मण) को मारने के पाप से मुक्ति पाने के लिए शिव की पूजा करना चाहते थे। हनुमान कैलाश से लिंग लाने गए लेकिन देर हो गई। तो सीता ने रेत से एक लिंग बनाया। दोनों लिंगों की पूजा होती है - रामलिंगम और हनुमान द्वारा लाया गया।
