Kamakhya Temple

Significance

Kamakhya is one of the most powerful and ancient Shakti Peeths, where the yoni (womb) of Goddess Sati fell. It is the center of Tantric worship and is especially revered during the Ambubachi Mela, celebrating the annual menstruation of the goddess. The temple does not have an idol but a natural stone formation representing the yoni.

कामाख्या सबसे शक्तिशाली और प्राचीन शक्तिपीठों में से एक है, जहां देवी सती की योनि (गर्भ) गिरी थी। यह तांत्रिक पूजा का केंद्र है और अंबुबाची मेला के दौरान विशेष रूप से पूजनीय है, जो देवी के वार्षिक रजस्वला को मनाता है। मंदिर में कोई मूर्ति नहीं है बल्कि योनि का प्रतिनिधित्व करने वाला एक प्राकृतिक पत्थर है।

Legend & History

According to legend, when Lord Shiva carried Sati's body in grief and danced the Tandava, Lord Vishnu cut her body into 51 pieces with his Sudarshan Chakra. The yoni fell at Kamakhya, making it the most powerful Shakti Peeth. The temple is mentioned in the Kalika Purana and has been a center of goddess worship since ancient times.

पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार, जब भगवान शिव ने शोक में सती के शरीर को लेकर तांडव नृत्य किया, तो भगवान विष्णु ने अपने सुदर्शन चक्र से उनके शरीर को 51 टुकड़ों में काट दिया। योनि कामाख्या में गिरी, जिससे यह सबसे शक्तिशाली शक्तिपीठ बन गया। इस मंदिर का उल्लेख कालिका पुराण में है और यह प्राचीन काल से देवी पूजा का केंद्र रहा है।
