Little Krishna and the Butter Pot

माखन चोर कृष्ण

The delightful story of little Krishna sneaking butter from the pots of Vrindavan.

Long ago in the beautiful village of Vrindavan, there lived a little boy named Krishna. He had sparkling dark eyes, a peacock feather in his curly hair, and the most mischievous smile anyone had ever seen.

Krishna's mother, Yashoda, made the most delicious butter in the whole village. Every morning she would churn fresh cream and store the golden butter in big clay pots hanging high from the ceiling — hung high so that little Krishna could not reach them. But Yashoda did not know just how clever her son really was!

Every day after breakfast, when mother Yashoda was busy with her chores, Krishna and his friends would sneak into the kitchen. Krishna would look up at the pots and grin. He would call his friends over and they would form a human pyramid — one boy would climb on another's shoulders — and Krishna would scramble all the way to the top! With chubby fingers he would crack open the pot and share the creamy butter with everyone, including the monkeys who waited eagerly outside.

One day, Yashoda caught him red-handed — butter smeared all over his mouth, his face, and even his peacock feather.

"Krishna!" she cried, and chased him around the courtyard with a small stick, scolding him tenderly. But Krishna just laughed and ran in dizzy circles, his little feet barely touching the ground.

When she finally caught him, Yashoda held him by the ears and asked, "Why do you keep stealing the butter? Tell me the truth!"

Krishna looked up with his big, innocent eyes and said sweetly, "Maa, the butter you make is the tastiest in the world. How could I not eat it? And besides — when I eat it, it tastes even better because you made it."

Yashoda's heart completely melted. She could never stay angry at her beloved Krishna for long.

The people of Vrindavan would come to complain to Yashoda — not because they were truly upset, but because they all loved to see Krishna's mischievous face when he was caught. Every story about little Krishna made the whole village smile.

To this day, children all over India celebrate Janmashtami by forming human pyramids to break hanging clay pots filled with butter and curd — just like their beloved Krishna used to do thousands of years ago!

Moral of the story

God loves those who are innocent and pure at heart.

भगवान भी माँ के प्रेम के आगे नतमस्तक हो जाते हैं।
