Chaitra Navratri Pooja Vidhi & Muhurat 2026
Chaitra Navratri 2026 runs from Thursday 19 March (Pratipada) to Thursday 26 March (Navami / Rama Navami); the fast is broken on the morning of Friday 27 March. Every step below — from Ghatasthapana to Parana — follows the traditional North-Indian vidhi.
Ghatasthapana / Kalash Sthapana
2026 Muhurat: Thursday 19 March, 6:52 AM – 10:10 AM IST (Chaitra Shukla Pratipada; the tithi runs from 6:53 AM on 19 March).
Items required (samagri)
- Clay or copper kalash
- Mango leaves — 5 or 7
- Whole coconut with husk
- Red cloth / chunari
- Akshata — unbroken rice
- Ganga jal or clean water
- Soil and barley (jau) seeds
- Supari, coins, durva grass
Steps (vidhi)
- Clean the puja area and spread a red cloth.
- Place soil in a small mound and sow barley seeds in it.
- Fill the kalash with water, akshata, durva, supari and coins.
- Place 5–7 mango leaves around the mouth of the kalash.
- Place the coconut wrapped in red cloth on top.
- Install the kalash on the soil mound.
- Light the akhand jyoti (continuous lamp) beside the kalash.
- Invoke Maa Shailputri with the sankalp mantra and offer flowers, kumkum and prasad.
Daily Puja Routine (all nine days)
- Snan & Sankalp — bathe early, wear clean clothes and take the sankalp for the day's vrat.
- Kalash Puja — offer fresh water, flowers and akshata to the kalash.
- Devi Sthapana — place the day's Navadurga image and invoke her with the mantra.
- Shodashopachara Puja — offer the sixteen upacharas: gandha, pushpa, dhoop, deep, naivedya and the rest.
- Durga Saptashati Path — recite one or more chapters of the Saptashati.
- Bhog & Aarti — offer the designated bhog for the day and perform aarti.
- Sandhya Aarti — evening lamp-lighting and Durga Aarti.
Kanya Pujan
On Ashtami and Navami (both fall on 26 March 2026 — Ashtami till 11:49 AM, then Navami), invite nine young girls aged 2–10, who represent the nine forms of Maa Durga.
Ritual steps
- Wash their feet with warm water and wipe gently.
- Apply tilak (kumkum / roli) on their forehead.
- Tie a mauli (sacred thread) on their wrist.
- Serve halwa, puri, black chana and a sweet.
- Offer gifts — clothes, money, bangles or fruit.
- Seek their blessings by touching their feet.
The nine kanyas represent the nine Navadurga forms. Treat them with the utmost respect and love — they are honoured as living embodiments of the Goddess.
Havan Vidhi
The sacred fire ritual is performed on Navami (26 March 2026) to conclude the nine-day fast and invoke Maa Durga's final blessings.

- Havan kund (fire pit)
- Mango-wood sticks

- Havan samagri (mixed herbs)

- Coconut pieces and dry fruits
Procedure
- Light the fire in the havan kund with mango wood.
- Offer ghee with the ladle while chanting "Om Swaha".
- Recite Durga Saptashati mantras or the Navarna Mantra (ॐ ऐं ह्रीं क्लीं चामुण्डायै विच्चे).
- Offer 108 ahutis (oblations) with samagri.
- Conclude with purna-ahuti — a whole coconut, fruits and sweets.
- Perform the final aarti and distribute prasad.
Parana — breaking the fast
After Kanya Pujan and Havan on Navami, break the fast on the morning of 27 March 2026 (Navami tithi ends at 10:07 AM) by eating the prasad first. Begin with something light — fruit, halwa-puri prasad — and resume normal meals gradually.

चैत्र नवरात्रि पूजा विधि एवं मुहूर्त 2026
चैत्र नवरात्रि 2026 गुरुवार 19 मार्च (प्रतिपदा) से गुरुवार 26 मार्च (नवमी / राम नवमी) तक है; व्रत का पारण शुक्रवार 27 मार्च की प्रातः किया जाता है। नीचे घटस्थापना से पारण तक हर चरण पारंपरिक उत्तर-भारतीय विधि के अनुसार दिया गया है।
घटस्थापना / कलश स्थापना
2026 मुहूर्त: गुरुवार 19 मार्च, प्रातः 6:52 AM – 10:10 AM IST (चैत्र शुक्ल प्रतिपदा; तिथि 19 मार्च प्रातः 6:53 AM से आरंभ)।
आवश्यक सामग्री
- मिट्टी या ताँबे का कलश
- आम के पत्ते — 5 या 7
- जटा सहित साबुत नारियल
- लाल कपड़ा / चुनरी
- अक्षत — साबुत चावल
- गंगाजल या स्वच्छ जल
- मिट्टी और जौ के बीज
- सुपारी, सिक्के, दूर्वा
विधि
- पूजा स्थान को स्वच्छ कर लाल कपड़ा बिछाएँ।
- मिट्टी की छोटी वेदी बनाकर उसमें जौ बोएँ।
- कलश में जल, अक्षत, दूर्वा, सुपारी और सिक्के भरें।
- कलश के मुख पर 5–7 आम के पत्ते लगाएँ।
- लाल कपड़े में लिपटा नारियल ऊपर रखें।
- कलश को मिट्टी की वेदी पर स्थापित करें।
- कलश के पास अखंड ज्योति प्रज्वलित करें।
- संकल्प मंत्र के साथ माँ शैलपुत्री का आवाहन करें; पुष्प, कुमकुम और प्रसाद अर्पित करें।
प्रतिदिन पूजा क्रम (नौ दिन)
- स्नान एवं संकल्प — प्रातः स्नान कर स्वच्छ वस्त्र पहनें और दिन के व्रत का संकल्प लें।
- कलश पूजा — कलश को ताज़ा जल, पुष्प और अक्षत अर्पित करें।
- देवी स्थापना — उस दिन की नवदुर्गा का चित्र/मूर्ति रखकर मंत्र से आवाहन करें।
- षोडशोपचार पूजा — गंध, पुष्प, धूप, दीप, नैवेद्य आदि सोलह उपचार अर्पित करें।
- दुर्गा सप्तशती पाठ — सप्तशती के एक या अधिक अध्याय पढ़ें।
- भोग एवं आरती — दिन का निर्धारित भोग लगाकर आरती करें।
- संध्या आरती — सायंकाल दीप जलाकर दुर्गा आरती करें।
कन्या पूजन
अष्टमी और नवमी (2026 में दोनों 26 मार्च को — अष्टमी 11:49 AM तक, फिर नवमी) पर 2 से 10 वर्ष की नौ कन्याओं को आमंत्रित करें, जो माँ दुर्गा के नौ रूपों का प्रतिनिधित्व करती हैं।
विधि
- गुनगुने जल से उनके चरण धोकर कोमलता से पोंछें।
- माथे पर कुमकुम/रोली का तिलक लगाएँ।
- कलाई पर मौली बाँधें।
- हलवा, पूरी, काले चने और मिठाई परोसें।
- उपहार दें — वस्त्र, दक्षिणा, चूड़ियाँ या फल।
- चरण स्पर्श कर आशीर्वाद लें।
नौ कन्याएँ नवदुर्गा के नौ रूप हैं। उनका अत्यंत आदर और स्नेह से सत्कार करें — उन्हें देवी का जीवंत स्वरूप माना जाता है।
हवन विधि
नौ दिन के व्रत के समापन और माँ दुर्गा के अंतिम आशीर्वाद के लिए नवमी (26 मार्च 2026) को हवन किया जाता है।

क्रम
- आम की लकड़ी से हवन कुंड में अग्नि प्रज्वलित करें।
- "ॐ स्वाहा" बोलते हुए स्रुवा से घी की आहुति दें।
- दुर्गा सप्तशती के मंत्र या नवार्ण मंत्र (ॐ ऐं ह्रीं क्लीं चामुण्डायै विच्चे) का पाठ करें।
- सामग्री से 108 आहुतियाँ दें।
- पूर्णाहुति में साबुत नारियल, फल और मिठाई अर्पित करें।
- अंतिम आरती कर प्रसाद वितरित करें।
पारण — व्रत खोलना
नवमी को कन्या पूजन और हवन के बाद 27 मार्च 2026 की प्रातः (नवमी तिथि 10:07 AM तक) सबसे पहले प्रसाद ग्रहण कर व्रत खोलें। हल्के आहार — फल, हलवा-पूरी प्रसाद — से आरंभ करें और धीरे-धीरे सामान्य भोजन लें।
