Maha Shivratri Puja Vidhi
Maha Shivratri falls on Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi. On this night Lord Shiva is worshipped with special Abhishek and night-long vigil. According to the Shiva Purana, Lord Shiva manifested as the Jyotirlinga on this night. Four-prahar worship is the distinctive tradition.

🪔 Puja Samagri (Items Required)
- Shivlinga or Shiva photo
- Bilva (Bael) leaves
- Panchamrit
- Gangajal (sacred water)
- Cannabis paste, Datura fruit (traditional offering)
- White sandalwood paste, sacred ash (vibhuti)
- White cloth / sacred thread
- Incense, ghee lamp, camphor
- Fruits: jujube, custard apple, guava
- Water vessel for Abhishek
📋 Puja Procedure — Steps
Step 1: Vrat Sankalp
Bathe in the morning and wear clean clothes. Sit before the Shivlinga and take the vrat sankalp. Observe full fast or fruit-fast through the day.
Step 2: First Prahar — 6 PM to 9 PM
Bathe the Shivlinga with water and milk. Offer Bilva leaves, Datura, akshata. Chant "Om Namah Shivaya" 108 times.
Step 3: Second Prahar — 9 PM to 12 AM
Bathe the Shivlinga with curd. Apply sandalwood paste, offer flowers. Recite the Shiva Panchakshara Stotram.
Step 4: Third Prahar — 12 AM to 3 AM
This is the most auspicious prahar. Bathe the Shivlinga with ghee. Apply Vibhuti. Recite Rudra Abhishek / Rudrashtakam.
Step 5: Fourth Prahar — 3 AM to 6 AM
Bathe the Shivlinga with honey. Offer coconut water. Chant the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra 108 times.
Step 6: Morning Aarti & Parana
After sunrise, sing Shiva Aarti. Distribute prasad. Break the fast — drink water first, then eat fruits.
