Sita Navami (May 2, 2026) commemorates the divine appearance of Goddess Sita — an avatara of Goddess Lakshmi — who emerged from the earth when King Janaka was ploughing his field. This Vaishakh Shukla Navami is also called Janaki Navami and is observed with Sita-Ram puja, reading of Sundar Kand, and fasting. Sita Navami falls on Vaishakh Shukla Navami (May 2, 2026). According to Valmiki Ramayana, Sita Mata appeared from the earth (bhoomi) while King Janaka was ploughing during a yajna — she is therefore called 'Bhoomi-putra' (daughter of earth). She is the avatara of Goddess Lakshmi. Rituals: Wake at brahma muhurta, bathe, establish Sita-Ram idol or photo, offer yellow and white flowers, tulsi, chandan (sandalwood), and panchamrit. Chant Sita Ashtottara Shatanamavali (108 names of Sita Mata) and read Sundar Kand. Married women observe this vrat for their husband's long life and health; unmarried girls observe it for a virtuous husband. Charity: donate sindoor-bangles kit (shringar samagri), rice, and clothes to a married woman (suhaagan). This day is also called Sitashtami in some regional traditions.
