Bathe on Tuesday morning and wear red or orange clothes. In South Indian tradition, applying tilak (bhasma or vibhuti) is essential.

Bathe Murugan's idol with milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar in sequence. Then rinse with pure water.

Dress the idol in red cloth. Decorate the Vel (spear) with red flowers โ€” this is Murugan's primary weapon.

Offer 21 red roses or kaner flowers. Apply red sandalwood paste as tilak.
