Significance
Haridwar is one of the oldest and holiest cities in India, and a major Kumbh Mela site on the banks of the Ganga. Har Ki Pauri is the most sacred ghat for taking a holy dip during Kumbh. It marks the point where the Ganga descends from the Himalayas into the plains.
Legend & History
Legend says that Lord Vishnu left his footprint on a stone at Har Ki Pauri, and the name means 'Steps of Lord Hari.' During the Samudra Manthan, a few drops of amrit fell here, making Haridwar one of the four Kumbh locations. The evening Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri is world-famous.
