Kurma Jayanti
About this festival
Kurma Jayanti (May 12, 2026) celebrates the manifestation of Lord Vishnu as the Kurma (tortoise) avatar — his second avatara. On the day of Vaishakha Purnima, Lord Vishnu took the form of a giant tortoise to support Mount Mandara during the Samudra Manthan (churning of the cosmic ocean), enabling the gods and demons to churn out Amrit (nectar of immortality). In 2026, Kurma Jayanti coincides with Buddha Purnima.
