📝 Notes Détaillées
Vaishakha Purnima 2026 date: 12 May 2026 (tithi begins 11 May evening). In Assam, this day carries deep Vaishnava significance: (1) Vaishakha Purnima Snan: Bathing in the Brahmaputra at Guwahati's Umananda and Sukreswar ghats, or in local ponds, is considered equal in merit to the Ganga snan at Kashi. The belief is that all 14 sacred rivers including the Brahmaputra carry the waters of Kashi on this day. (2) Vishnu Puja: Temples across Assam — especially Hayagriva Madhava at Hajo — hold special pujas. Devotees offer yellow flowers, yellow fruits (pineapple, banana), yellow sweets, and Tulasi leaves to Vishnu. Recite the Vishnu Sahasranama and Hayagriva Stotram. (3) Vaishakh Maas Daan: This is the culmination of the auspicious Vaishakh month — donating grains (sattu, chana), water pots (matka), umbrellas, footwear, and ghee to Brahmins generates immense punya. (4) Fasting: A full-day fast (Purnima Vrat) is observed, broken after moonrise with Panchamrita (milk, curd, honey, ghee, sugar). On this Purnima, offering a copper pot of water, sesame oil lamp, and white flowers to the Pipal tree is considered especially auspicious. The day also marks Kurma Jayanti, the appearance of Vishnu's tortoise avatar.
