📝 Detailed Notes
Jyeshtha Amavasya 2026 (May 16) is a rare triple-observance day of exceptional spiritual power. (1) Shani Jayanti: Lord Shani was born to Surya (the Sun god) and Chhaya. He rules karma, justice, and discipline. Puja: Oil abhishek (sesame or mustard) to Shani idol, offer black sesame seeds, black cloth. Light sesame-oil diya. Chant Shani Chalisa and Shani Beej Mantra 'Om Pram Preem Praum Sah Shanaischaraya Namah' 108 times. Donate mustard oil and black sesame to the poor. (2) Vat Savitri Vrat: Married Hindu women fast and worship the Banyan (Vat) tree, recreating the devotion of Savitri who retrieved her husband Satyavan's soul from Yama through her fierce love and wisdom. Samagri: Red thread (mauli), 5 fruits, betel leaves, incense, earthen diya, water pot. Ritual: Wrap red thread around the banyan tree 7 times while circling it, offer water at the roots, recite the Savitri-Satyavan Vrat Katha, and pray for husband's long life and prosperity. (3) Amavasya Pitru Tarpan: Offer water and sesame to ancestors at dawn facing south. Donate food to Brahmins in ancestors' memory. This combined day yields triple spiritual merit.
