Significance
Source of the sacred Godavari river. The linga has three faces representing Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva (Trimurti). Location of the Kumbh Mela every 12 years.
Legend & History
Sage Gautama lived here with his wife Ahilya. Due to a curse, the Godavari river disappeared. Gautama prayed to Shiva, who released the Ganga from his locks as Godavari. Pleased with Gautama's devotion, Shiva decided to reside there as Trimbakeshwar.
