Navratri Garba — Gujarat's World-Famous Nine-Night Shakti Festival
Über dieses Fest
Gujarat's Navratri Garba is one of the most spectacular religious-cultural events in the world — designated by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (2023). For nine nights, millions of Gujaratis gather across cities, towns, and villages to perform the traditional Garba dance in concentric circles around the Goddess (Amba Mata / Durga). The Garba is accompanied by Dandiya Raas (stick dance), live music, dhol (drum), and traditional costumes (chaniya-choli for women, kediyu for men). The nine nights celebrate the nine forms of Shakti (Navadurga) — each night a different form of the Goddess is worshipped. Major celebrations: Ahmedabad (TGB — over 50,000 participants at venues), Vadodara, Rajkot, Surat, Bhavnagar, Ambaji. The Ambaji Mata temple (Banaskantha) is the spiritual center of Gujarat's Navratri — Bhadarvi Poonam falls just before Sharad Navratri and draws additional millions.
