🌑 Amavasya — Tithi, Significance & Rituals
Amavasya is the new moon day in the Hindu calendar when the moon is not visible. It is considered ideal for Pitru Tarpan (ancestral offering), self-purification, and spiritual practices.
🕉️ Significance of Amavasya
- Perform Tarpan for ancestral souls — this helps them attain Moksha.
- Bathing and charity on Amavasya removes Pitru Dosha and brings peace at home.
- Special day for remedies of Shani Dosha, Kaal Sarp Dosha, and Pitru Dosha.
- Best day for worship of Lord Shiva, Goddess Kali, and Pitru Dev.
🙏 Pitru Tarpan Ritual
- Wake up before sunrise and take a bath.
- Perform Tarpan in a river, pond, or with clean water at home.
- Mix black sesame seeds (til) in water and offer with both hands to ancestors.
- Chant "Om Pitribhyah Namah" and offer water 3 times.
- Feed a Brahmin and offer dakshina.
- Feed a cow and dogs.
