Janmashtami Puja Vidhi

Sri Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated on Bhadrapada Krishna Ashtami. Lord Krishna's birth is celebrated at midnight. The Laddu Gopal (baby Krishna) idol is placed in a cradle and rocked. A nirjala or fruit fast is observed. Mathura-Vrindavan celebrates with special grandeur.

  • Laddu Gopal idol (brass/silver)
  • Cradle / swing
  • Adornments: crown, flute, clothes, jewellery
  • Panchamrit
  • Butter, mishri, dhaniya panjiri
  • Fruits, sweets, butter-mishri
  • Tulsi leaves
  • Flowers, garland, peacock feather
  • Lamp, incense, camphor

📋 Puja Procedure — Steps

Step 1: व्रत-संकल्प एवं उपवास

Bathe and take the vrat sankalp. Observe nirjala or fruit fast.

Step 2: लड्डू गोपाल श्रृंगार

Bathe Laddu Gopal with Panchamrit and water. Adorn with new clothes, crown, flute, and peacock feather. Place on Tulsi leaves in the cradle.

Step 3: मध्यरात्रि जन्मोत्सव

At midnight, blow the conch and ring bells. Sing "Nand Ghar Anand Bhayo." Rock the cradle.

Step 4: षोडशोपचार पूजा

Perform 16-step worship. Offer butter-mishri, dhaniya panjiri, panchamrit as naivedya.

Step 5: कृष्ण कथा / भागवत पाठ

Recite the birth of Krishna from Shrimad Bhagavat, Dashama Skanda. Or listen to Krishna Leelas.

Step 6: आरती, पारण एवं प्रसाद

Sing "Aarti Kunj Bihari Ki." Break the fast after midnight with Panchamrit. Distribute butter-mishri and panjiri prasad.
