Why Saturday for Hanuman?
When Hanuman freed Shani Dev from Ravana's prison, Shani gave the boon: "Whoever worships Hanuman on my day (Saturday), I will never afflict them."
Why Sindoor Chola?
When Hanuman saw Sita's sindoor and asked "this extends Ram's life?", he applied sindoor all over his own body. This is the origin of the Chola tradition.
6-Step Sindoor Chola Vidhi
Prepare Sindoor + Ghee Paste
Mix fresh sindoor with pure ghee in a small bowl to form a paste.
Apply from Feet Upwards
Start at Hanuman's feet and slowly apply the sindoor-ghee paste upward. This is the "Chola."
Offer Janeu
Offer a new janeu (sacred thread) โ this honours Hanuman's brahmachari form.
Flower Garland
Jasmine or marigold garland. White flowers are especially auspicious.
Mustard Oil Lamp
Mustard oil lamp โ Shani's favourite. Place facing west. Chant "Om Sham Shanaischaraya Namah" 7 times.
Hanuman Chalisa + Aarti
Recite Hanuman Chalisa once + "Aarti Kije Hanuman Lala Ki." Now go to the Shani temple for Step 2.
