India Gate
New Delhi, Delhi
India Gate, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and inaugurated in 1931, stands 42 metres tall at the eastern end of Kartavya Path (formerly Rajpath) in New Delhi. The eternal flame — Amar Jawan Jyoti — burns at its base in memory of fallen soldiers. The surrounding lawns are perfect for family picnics, evening strolls, and street-side snacks. The memorial is spectacularly lit at night and draws lakhs of visitors for the sunset and night ambiance. Nearby Pandara Road offers some of Delhi's finest restaurants.
October to March (winter). Evenings for the illuminated view.
