📖 Significance of Navratri
Navratri occurs four times a year — Sharad (Ashwin), Chaitra, Magha, and Ashadha. Chaitra and Sharad are most celebrated. These nine days worship the nine forms of Devi Durga. According to the Devi Bhagavata Purana, these nine forms (Nava Durga) together defeated Mahishasura, Raktabija, and Shumbha-Nishumbha.
Wearing the color of the day's Devi form is considered auspicious. Chanting her specific mantra and offering her prescribed Bhog (like cow's milk on Day 1, sugar on Day 2) yields special merit.
