About

Durga is the fierce warrior form of the Divine Mother who protects against evil. She embodies Shakti — the primordial cosmic energy. Created by the combined powers of all the gods to defeat the buffalo-demon Mahishasura, Durga rides a lion and wields divine weapons in her ten arms.

How to observe (Vidhi):

  1. Light an Akhand Jyoti (continuous lamp) for all nine days.
  2. Worship each of the Navdurga forms on their respective day.
  3. Offer red flowers, fruits, and coconut.
  4. Recite Durga Chalisa or Durga Saptashati daily.
  5. On Ashtami/Navami, perform Kanya Puja (worship of young girls as Devi).
